In June, the Office for University Advancement and the Department of History & Political Science hosted a luncheon in honor of Dr. Shirley Hickson to launch the Dr. Shirley Ann Hickson Endowment Fund.
More than twenty people attended this special occasion, including departmental alumni, as Dr. Hickson was honored for her 40 years of service to the university and used the occasion to describe her inspiration for the fund she founded. President Jimmy Epting, Vice President Randall Pannell, and Dean Catherine Sepko each addressed the audience, speaking of the importance of academics in general, and history in particular, as well as honoring Dr. Hickson for her lifetime of service to the university.
The Hickson Endowment Fund is the only fund of its kind at NGU. Once the principle is large enough, the interest is to be used exclusively by the faculty members of the Department of History & Political Science to enhance their academic development by helping to defray research costs, and expenses associated with visiting historic sites, attending conferences, and hosting special speakers on campus.
