YES Ė Many times, having a job for financial support is a necessity. We also see teaching other drumlines as a great educational experience. However, please keep in mind that if chosen to be a member of NGI, you are expected to be at all scheduled rehearsals and performances. Absences due to job related conflicts will not be excused. Once the seasonís schedule has been released, please be sure to adjust your work schedule to NGIís schedule.
Anyone between the ages of 14-22 can be a member of NGI. While the group is affiliated with North Greenville University, you do not have to be a student at the university to participate. The group is open to high school students, high school graduates, and college students and it is not limited to percussionists. If you have any experience playing percussion instruments within a band program, you are welcome to join us. The goal of this ensemble is to educate and increase the musical ability of all of its members and our hope is that as the members return to their respective schools, they will bring a level of excellence to those programs.
There is a one-time audition fee which covers the entire audition process. You may pre-register online with a $5 discount. Pre-registration ends on October 20.
Returning Members Audition Fee - $30 ($25 pre-registration)
New Members Audition Fee - $40 ($35 pre-registration)
Member dues for the 2017-18 season are $725*. These dues will be collected on a payment schedule throughout the season, but can also be paid as one full payment. There will be a $100 down payment for all selected members at the first camp on November 17, 2017. Dues must be paid in full on the required dates or you may be dismissed from the group. Fundraising for your dues is highly encouraged and can be a great way to get your friends and family involved in what you are doing. Organized fundraising activities will also be presented for members throughout the season by the NGI staff.
The purchase of member jackets is not included in the membership fees.
*This amount may lower depending on the number of members in the group.
Meals during rehearsal weekends and transportation to and from the rehearsal site are not provided by NGI. Members are responsible for covering these costs. Carpooling and packing your meals from home are some ways to save money. On occasion, meals may be provided by a donor, sponsor, or NGI. The same costs would apply as we travel on competition weekends. The voluntary purchase of a member jacket would be separate from the membership fees.
Rehearsals for NGI will take place on Friday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00am-9:00pm. On competition weekends, this same schedule will be followed with the addition of travel to the competition site on Saturdays.
The location of NGIís rehearsals is still to be determined.
Housing will be determined per semester.
YES Ė You are making a commitment to NGI and this should be your first priority, even over your job and other teaching responsibilities. Excused absences may include family emergencies, illnesses and school related activities that are a part of the grade for a class. It is your responsibility to manage your time efficiently and communicate NGIís schedule to all of the necessary people. Any absences must be communicated to the NGI staff as soon as it is known.
We are a non-profit organization and we are always looking for volunteers! Please fill out the Volunteer Form found on the webpage and be sure to communicate how you would like to help with NGI.
