State & Federal Financial Aid Programs

  • Pell Grant - The Federal Pell Grant Program is one source of grant aid sponsored by the federal government. The amount of an eligible student's grant is determined by financial need, cost of education, enrollment status (half, three-quarter, or full time), and congressional appropriation. To be considered, the student must complete the (FAFSA)
  • South Carolina Tuition Grant (SCTG) - Students who are SC residents and are in the top 75% of their graduating class may qualify. (FAFSA) must be completed and received before the deadline of June 30 each year. To retain the South Carolina Tuition Grant you must pass 24 semester hours each year. Students may only receive the SCTG for 8 semesters. Developmental courses only count during the first year in college. For 2013-14: Scholarship amount was $2900. Some higher income families may not receive full SCTG.
  • Life Scholarship (Legislative Incentives for Future Excellence)- SC Residents who graduate from a SC High School must meet 2 out of 3 criteria to qualify -- 3.0 GPA, 1100 SAT score or 24 ACT score, or top 30% of their senior class. To retain the LIFE Scholarship in subsequent years, a student must pass at least 30 credit hours and maintain a 3.0 GPA on a cumulative basis. Scholarship amount is $5000.
  • Hope Scholarship: The Hope Scholarship changes to the Life Scholarship for the sophomore year with at least 30 credit hours and a 3.0 GPA. The Hope Scholarship is for freshmen year only. Scholarship amount is $2800.
  • Palmetto Fellows: Students must apply in the senior year of high school with their guidance counselor. Students must complete a FAFSA. To retain the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, a student must pass 30 college credit hours each year with a 3.0 GPA on a cumulative basis. Scholarship amount for Freshman- $6700, Upperclassmen- $7500.
  • Enhanced Palmetto Fellows & Life Scholarships: Upperclassmen (Soph, Juniors, and Seniors) Biology and Math majors may be eligible for an enhanced scholarship amount.The student must pass 14 hours of math and/or science courses during their freshman year to qualify and maintain the academic qualifications for Palmetto Fellows or Life Scholarships. The Palmetto Fellows Scholarship increases to $10,000 and the Life Scholarship increases to $7500. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if this enhancement is not automatically awarded.
