Ready to join the NGU family? You’ve come to the right place! We outline the steps for applying to NGU Graduate School, and provide instructions for additional resources as well as information about the application process.

Before you continue, make sure you have your relevant personal information and academic materials on hand. This will ensure a simpler, smoother NGU application process for you.

Applying for a Master’s Program

North Greenville University’s graduate school takes seriously its call to educate professionals. We strive to provide a Christ-centered environment that will develop depth of understanding in content areas while establishing strong character. Each program is developed to meet the specific needs of the student’s professional career.

  • The self-reflective essay, which is required for all master’s level programs, is a writing sample designed to help us get to know you. It is your story, and should tell why you want to pursue a degree at NGU’s graduate school. The required length is 500 words. This document can be mailed with your application or you may submit it electronically to our office.
  • Each program requires three reference forms. Please obtain these printable forms from the links below. Please complete Part I of each form and deliver it to your reference for them to complete Parts II and III. Please be sure they understand we need their signature and contact information in Part III for the form to be complete. These forms are preferable to formal reference letters.
  • Official transcripts are required for each program. The Official Transcript form is also attainable from the links at the bottom of the page.

Submit all items to the Graduate Admissions. You should note that each program has its own specific term dates and schedule. Deadline for application is two weeks prior to the start of any program term for master’s level programs, with the exception of the Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences and Master of Medical Science in PA Medicine. You can refer to the program of interest Academic Calendar for the dates the terms will begin.

  • Master of Medical Science – PA Medicine
  • Master of Music Education

    Applicants for the Master of Music Education (MME) program should submit their application with the following enclosures:

    1. Two professional reference forms from individuals who have knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities/professional musical experience
    2. One personal reference form
    3. All Official Transcripts (Download the Official Transcript Request Form below). A 2.75 GPA in the undergraduate degree is required
    4. Self Reflective Essay of 500 words relating the applicant’s personal goals to music education
    5. Professional resume
    6. Complete the diagnostic tests in Music Theory and Music History
    7. Have an interview with the Program Director and members of the Graduate Music Council in person, or by phone, email or Skype
    8. Provide a copy of a valid South Carolina teaching certificate or an out-of-state equivalent (or evidence of prior certification)

Doctorate Instructions

Admission Portfolio Instructions

  1. Complete all items on the Application for Admission form.
  2. Submit a 10-page, 3-part essay that includes: (a) A description of your salvation and Christian discipleship experiences, how God called you to ministry, and how you have been able to serve voluntarily and professionally; (b) A summary of your professional and educational goals; and (c) A response to the provided case study concerning an actual ministry scenario or problem. Essays must be double-spaced and submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc) or as a PDF.
  3. Secure Five Character Reference forms from individuals qualified to judge your potential for ministry and your capacity for growth through an advanced study program. References should include a former professor in master’s level studies, a colleague outside your church or agency, a denominational leader, a lay leader in your church or agency, and a community leader outside your church or agency. Please ask the individual to mail the form directly to the Graduate Enrollment office.
  4. Choose a church or employment reference and have the person complete the Church/Employer Recommendation form. Please ask the individual to mail the form directly to the Graduate Enrollment office.
  5. Interview with the DMin Director.
  6. Request your official transcripts using the form provided in this packet. (Make duplicates as needed.)

Admissions Portfolio Instructions

To be considered for admission as a candidate for the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with North Greenville University’s Graduate School of Education, applicants must complete each of the numbered steps below. Items required are:

  1. A master’s degree from an accredited university (Official transcripts from both your undergraduate and graduate institutions must be sent.)
  2. An overall graduate grade point average of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 in graduate coursework.
  3. Candidates should submit a letter of intent.

For International Students

  1. A satisfactory score on the internet-based (TOEFL) version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants whose native language is not English.
  2. Three letters of professional recommendation.
  3. Intake interview (online or in-person).
  4. A satisfactory score on the internet-based (TOEFL) version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants whose native language is not English.
  5. Three letters of professional recommendation.
  6. Complete a letter of intent (2 pages or less) stating reasons for pursuing the degree, research interests, career goals, and how this program can meet career goals.
  7. Intake interview (online or in-person).

*Candidates who hold an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution will be exempt from the testing requirement for admission. Candidates that have earned 9 credit hours in a regionally accredited doctoral program with a minimum grade of “B” in all courses will be exempt from the testing requirement for admission. These candidates must provide an academic writing sample of no less than 1000 words (sample may include previous academic writing at the graduate level). Up to 21 hours of doctoral work may be transferred to NGU upon approval by the graduate program associate dean for the College of Education after transcript analysis.

Admission to the program depends on several factors including the overall quality of application materials, depth of professional experience, relevant degree(s) from accredited institutions, and applicant/program fit. No one factor will be used to make an admission decision. All factors will be used to determine a complete picture of the candidate’s competitiveness and ability to successfully complete the EdD Program.

To receive transfer credit, students must submit to their Admissions Advisor an official doctoral level transcript, from a regionally accredited institution, along with a Graduate Credit Transfer Request form and course descriptions of the courses that are under consideration for transfer credit. Transfer credit is officially counted toward the student’s degree after successful completion of two terms in the EdD program.
