Theatre Dept. brings All My Sons to campus

TIGERVILLE, SC - North Greenville University Theatre is proud to present Arthur Miller’s landmark American drama, All My Sons. Directed by Dale Savidge, All My Sons features acting professor Corrie Eddleman and senior theatre majors Cora Flottman, Chris Hecke and Ben Porch in the cast. It runs from April 16-18 at 7:30 pm and tickets are available by calling the NGU box office at 864-977-7085 or by email: theatre@ngu.edu

Arthur Miller began writing All My Sons after hearing a true story of a woman who turned in her father for selling defective military equipment. Miller injected themes of family, money and father-son relationships that characterize his best dramas. The play explores personal ethics and personal responsibility and typifies Miller’s belief that tragedy can touch even a “common man.”

The play won the NY Drama Critic’s Circle Award for Best New Play and a Tony Award in 1947 and established him as one of America’s premiere playwrights. It was his first Broadway hit and would be followed soon after by his classics Death of a Salesman, The Crucible and A View from the Bridge. Sons opened on Broadway at the Coronet Theatre on January 29, 1947 with Ed Begley and Karl Malden in the cast and Elia Kazan at the helm as director. A 1948 movie of the play featured Edward G. Robinson and Burt Lancaster.

Arthur Miller is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize, three Tony Awards and the John F Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award, among many other honors.
