Chairman and Associate Professor - Department of Sport Management (2001-Present), Department of Outdoor Leadership (2005-2007), and Coordinator of Physical Education Program (August 2005 – Present)

Manage over 180 majors, 4 full-time and 1 part-time faculty in the SPTM Department; 7 part-time faculty in the PHED Department. Responsible for all administrative and academic:

  •          Schedule all Spring, Fall, and Summer (I and II) courses.
  •          Coordinate individual faculty member schedules.
  •          Manage marketing materials (brochures, displays, bulletin boards, profiles, catalog & web site)
  •          Administer curriculum revisions - creation of and replacement of courses.
  •          Spearhead on-line initiatives - the first departmental on-line courses using Blackboard.
  •          Organize monthly departmental meetings.
  •          Coordinate annual trip to NASSM professional conference.
  •          Maintain and report on semester enrollment and growth of programs.
  •          Administer and tabulate Exit Examinations for all graduating seniors.
  •          Manage all SACS, IACBE, COSMA, and NASSM accreditation documentation.
  •          Coordinate all Encounter Day activities.
  •          Coordinate volunteerism opportunities & strategic alliances.
  •          Review and evaluate faculty members.
  •          Meet with prospective students and parents visiting the campus.
  •          Assist seniors with internship acquisition and research project editing.
  •          Assist graduates with the application process and employment search.
  •          Coordinate departmental Advisory Board.
  •          Spearhead special projects for the Dean such as MBA with SPTM emphasis, SPTM degree with a Coaching Certification, New Encounter Day display, and On-Line courses.

Organize and further develop all departmental documents, systems, and procedures. Teach full course load (4x4) including Directed Independent Studies. Faculty Sponsor for the Sport Management Society, an on-campus professional organization designed to promote professionalism through monthly meetings with sport industry professionals, fundraising, speakers arrangement, and hosting events on-campus. Speak at various campus activities and to other departments and programs. Oversee work study students. Represents the SPTM Department at all Encounter Days and Freshman Pre-Registration. Advise 60 program majors.

2.      Coordinated all Bowler Educational Clinics and Seminars.

3.      Created and currently retailing the bowling industry’s only sport science tome, The Bowling-Specific Training Manual.

The company vision was to become highly visible in the healthcare, health services, and health fitness industry. Transitions planned to develop and market several initial services, using multiple forms of media to become the Upstate South Carolina’s leader in wellness. The first facility was a 4-phase, 5-year project developing, financing, constructing, and operating a clinically integrated, hospital-affiliated wellness center.

Partnered in the development of a wellness center including floor plan, equipment purchase, employee training, software training and management, program design and implementation, network database, and corporate relations. Designed, presented, and sold corporate wellness packages to local industry. Secured a $50,000 corporate wellness package. Coordinated and supervised exercise rehabilitation for physical therapy patients. Developed the PT Clinic into a well-balanced wellness center with multiple service offerings and revenue streams. Eventually sold to a local hospital system.

YMCA of Albany, GA

Fitness Director

August 1993 – October 1994

Managed fitness department including 4 locker rooms, double gymnasium, 6 racquetball courts, 5 exercise areas, 6 tennis courts, walking track, aerobics, karate, tennis, racquetball, massage programs, special events, over 30 YMCA personnel and volunteers. Responsible for budget in excess of $500,000. Took the fitness department and its programs from an overall deficit to a profit. Budgeted, marketed, evaluated, reported, and planned for growth and development of department. Created several external revenue generating streams.
