NGU Introduces New Campus Band

Music is a gift from God and a powerful medium to reach each generation with the gospel. The NGU Campus Band was birthed to minister to students at North Greenville University in chapel worship and to lead the current generation of students in worship wherever God opens the door.

The band shares the best of contemporary praise and worship music with excellence to the glory of God. The first edition of the NGU Campus Band began their ministry in August.

The initial band includes seniors Heath Williams and Tara Sheffield (vocalists and acoustic guitars), Micah McMinn (rhythm guitar and vocals), Tyler Beemer (team leader and sound engineer), junior Matthew Weaver (Bass) and sophomores Gage Glass (lead guitar) and Mike Quint (drums).  Heath, Tara, Micah, Matthew, and Tyler were part of the ministry of Joyful Sound, the BSU ensemble, before embarking on this new adventure.  These students were selected because of their passion for the Lord and worship, their personal walk with the Lord, and musicianship. Team members receive partial scholarships.

Jared Barber, NGU class of 2009, is serving as music director for the band. During his years at NGU, Jared led the Joyful Sound band. He is a gifted guitarist, singer, and bass player. After graduating from NGU, Jared toured with the band, Chasen. They recorded On and On, a song that was on the contemporary Christian music charts for several weeks.

Dr. Steve Crouse, Vice President for Campus Ministries, works with Jared in recruiting, selecting, and supervising the band. Rev. Mayson Easterling, Vice President for Denominational Relations, serves as the business manager. For appearances, contact Mayson Easterling at mayson.easterling@ngu.edu
