Family Weekend is a time for families to connect with their student’s home away from home, the NGU Family, and with the surrounding community. The Office of Student Life has planned a varied schedule of events for our visiting families. The cost for the weekend package is $30 per family member. NGU students are able to participate in all weekend activities free of charge except for events listed with a cost.

 

Below is a sample schedule of family weekend.

If you cannot pick up your Family Weekend package, you may send your student to pick it up.

 

Saturday Morning Information Sessions: Experience Our Resources

 

This weekend, we want to connect you with your student, NGU Family, and the surrounding community. We understand every family will have diverse expectations for this weekend. With that outlook in mind, we have created a schedule full of diverse events for our visiting families. The NGU package cost is $30 per family member. This does not include your NGU Student.

The package includes:

  • Family Weekend T-shirt
  • Tailgate Admission (Dinner)
  • Football Ticket

Many excursions are available on Saturday. Although some excursions will cost extra, you can take advantage of several free excursions as well.  We have trips, sessions and other experiences available for purchase; cost is listed and will be added to your family weekend package. Each excursion has limited availability. You are also free to explore the Greater Greenville Area.

Mental Health and Your College Student - Steve Bielby

Join us for an informative session about how your college student can connect with our on-site counselors. You will have the opportunity to meet a member of our mental health staff here at NGU who provides safe locations for students to talk and work through a variety of situations.

 

Student Success in Academics  - Vlad Sabou

Find out what North Greenville has to offer your child in the area of succeeding in the classroom. Vlad Sabou, the Director of Student Success, will share information with you on how to help your child get plugged in if they are struggling in a particular class. He will also share information with you about the homework labs that help students who are struggling momentarily with a subject and even walk through the process of how your student can obtain a free tutor if they need one. Vlad’s office is a great resource on campus.

 

Finances Beyond College - Stuart Floyd and Atari Jarrett

Prepare you and your student for the financial aspects that follow college graduation! This session will equip you and your student to handle some of these pressures. Stuart and Atari will also instruct you on the best methods to pay off your student debt.

Special guest speaker: Karla Partin ($10/$5 NGU student)

This is a great time for mothers to spend with their daughters on campus.. This is a fantastic resource for your daughter!

 

12:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 

Free time with your student.

Here are some options for you and your family to choose from and to enjoy this afternoon:

  • Lunch is available for purchase in Todd Dining Hall.
  • Father/Son College Football Hangout with Papa John’s pizza in the upstairs loft of the Tigerville General Store.
  • This new campus facility includes an awesome upstairs hangout area for students! Football games will be on the TVs so you can spend the afternoon cheering on your favorite team with your student and his fellow classmates. Pizza will be available for purchase downstairs at Papa John’s. Free Event: you will be responsible for pizza purchases.
  • Hiking at Falls Creek Falls in Marietta, SC. This hike will last one hour.
  • This group will meet at the NGU Office of Campus Security at 1:15pm.

This trip is a great option for an afternoon full of adventure.  An awesome member of our Recreation Staff will be leading this outdoor activity (Limited space available, pre-registration recommended. Free activity!)

5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

 

Crusader Tailgate with President Dr. Fant. This tailgate meal is included in your Family Weekend Package. The meal will be served on the lawn of the Younts Football Stadium. This will be a great time for your family to mingle with Dr. Fant, Student Life Staff, and other NGU families! Dinner Included in Family Weekend Package.

 

7:00 p.m.

 

Crusader Kick-off at Younts Football Stadium. Come watch North Greenville take on Delta State.

Football Ticket Included in Family Weekend Package.

 

Biltmore House

 

Completed in 1895, George Vanderbilt’s 250-room chateau is as impressive today as it was more than a century ago. Biltmore House is truly a wonder of architecture and hospitality. As our guest, you’re invited to enjoy a self-guided tour of the house, as well as the beautiful gardens and grounds surrounding it, designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.

Caesars Head

 

A granitic gneiss outcropping atop the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment gives Caesars Head State Park its name. Every fall, from the easily accessible overlook atop the rocky peak of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, sightseers are treated to the Hawk Watch program and a spectacular view that extends into North Carolina and Georgia.
 
Caesars Head connects to Jones Gap State Park in what is known as the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, an 13,000-acre area of pristine southern mountain forest. Hikers can take a number of loop and traverse hiking trails that connect the parks.

Falls Park

 

Far more than a nature lover’s paradise, Falls Park on the Reedy, located in downtown Greenville’s Historic West End, is one of Greenville’s greatest treasures. The park serves as an oasis within the city - a place where people gather to work, play, and celebrate life. The multi-use facility lends itself to a wide variety of activities for people of all ages and interests.

Father/Son College Football Hangout at Papa John’s Pizza

 

The Tigerville General Store includes an awesome loft hangout area for the guys (and gals) to hang out, eat pizza, and watch their favorite college football teams. Pizza will be available for purchase downstairs at Papa John’s.  

 

Hiking at Falls Creek Falls in Marietta, S.C.

 

This trip is a great option for an afternoon full of adventure. An awesome member of our Outdoor Leadership Staff will be leading this outdoor activity. This hike will last one hour. The group will meet at the NGU Office of Campus Security at 1:15 p.m.

Sky Top Apple Orchard

 

The mountains of western North Carolina are full of pick-your-own orchards. In addition to a long list of apple varieties, you’ll enjoy panoramic mountain views, orchard ponds, a barnyard area, a bamboo forest to explore, lots of picnic areas and, of course, a mountaintop of fragrant apple and fruit trees. You have to try the famous apple cider doughnuts. You can’t eat just one!
