University Marketing Resources

These are NGU’s standard branding and style guidelines and materials, so you can stay on brand and support our mission.

How to record a video on your phone:

  1. Open your phone camera and choose video mode.
  2. Tap the record button to start recording.
  3. While recording, you can pinch the screen to zoom in and out.
  4. Tap the red record button again to stop recording.

Tips:

  • Use the back lens, not the selfie lens.
  • Use a Bluetooth microphone for better sound. If that’s not possible, keep the camera within 3′ of the subject.
  • Shoot in landscape (horizontal) orientation, not portrait (vertical.)
  • Use a tripod. If you do not have one, let a friend hold the camera for you; don’t hold it yourself.
  • Look into the camera lens, not at the person who’s holding the phone. (Unless you want to appear interview-style.)
  • Tap on the face of the subject on screen to focus on the subject.
  • Pick a quiet location with minimal background noise.
  • Try to find an interesting setting. Avoid standing in front of a blank wall if possible.
  • Pick a well-lit spot, but do not shoot against a window or other bright background.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and what is in your shot. Remove anything that will be distracting.
  • Wait a beat before talking, and wait a beat when you’re done before cutting.
  • Smile! Be happy!
  • Do not email or text the clips from your phone — they will come across at low resolution.

Photography and Videography Policy

In order to best utilize University resources and maintain brand standards in the pursuit of excellence, the Office of University Marketing has established policies and procedures regarding institutional videography and photography requests.

Completing the request form does not guarantee we will be able to accommodate your project.

If your project is approved, we will contact you within 24 hours to discuss timelines and priorities. Final project completion date will be based on project scope and available resources.

In those cases where we are not able to provide support, we can supply a list of recommended freelancers who are familiar with the North Greenville University brand standards and can assist with the project. By using one of the recommended freelancers, we can ensure that the final product is brand compliant and of the same high quality as if produced in-house.

Requests made through email, phone, or other methods of communication may not be accommodated.

Advanced notice of at least (6) weeks is required for ALL videography and photography projects. All videos created by University Marketing must be for the purposes of growing brand awareness, increasing perceived value, and recruiting students and donors.

Photography sittings for headshots are available on the first Tuesday of each month between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Headshots may be scheduled in 15 minute increments. To schedule your headshot, email Steven Guersch at sguersch@ngu.edu.
