Briggs Named Dean of New College of Wellness & Sport Professions
(November 7, 2018) Dr. Jeff Briggs, currently acting dean of NGU’s College of Business & Sport Professions and chair of the Department of Sport Management, has been named the founding dean of the new College of Wellness & Sport Professions effective January 1, 2019.
The new College of Wellness & Sport Professions will include three undergraduate degree programs: sport management with concentrations in business, coaching, and ministry; physical education which includes the service program and the pending K-12 certification program; and outdoor leadership.
“North Greenville University’s academic programs include a strong emphasis on sport professions and outdoor leadership, and we expect to move quickly to add new academic tracks in wellness and sport, including new graduate programs,” said NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr. “Dean Briggs is incredibly entrepreneurial and is uniquely poised to lead these marquis programs.”
Briggs serves as NGU’s faculty athletic representative, co-chairs the annual Marion Moorhead Homecoming Golf Classic, as well as co-chairs the Faith at Work Business Symposium each spring. He earned his doctorate in sport management from Florida State University in 1999. In addition to his service at NGU, he currently serves as the chief financial officer at College Park Church in Berea, where he and his family attends.
He consults with local business entrepreneurs in the areas of business development and strategic planning. In his prior career, he served as president and CEO of Briggs Consulting, which at one time sold over fifteen thousand copies of “The Bowling-Specific Training Manual” in over 50 countries.
“Jeff Briggs will make an outstanding dean for the College of Wellness & Sport Professions. He has a proven track record as a faculty leader and is widely respected throughout the Upstate,” said NGU Provost Dr. Nathan A. Finn. “As chair of our Department of Sport Management, he has built a powerhouse program. He is also a man of deep Christian faith who loves investing in students. I am so excited he is willing to take on this strategic role in this promising new college.”
