Department: Information Technology Services

 

Position Summary: This position provides project management, business, and technical expertise in support of institutional business applications.  These responsibilities include consulting with ERP module managers, scoping small to medium projects, developing requirements, application development and maintenance, and management of small to medium sized cross-functional change efforts.

This position may also be responsible for writing, testing, and troubleshooting routine to moderate complexity web-based and/or client-based software.  Serves as level II technical resource supporting users with established applications and with operational support.

 

Responsibilities

 

Primary Duties

  1. Consults with clients in all operational areas to determine business and process needs that can be solved with technology.
  2. Evaluate and recommend new processes, software, and/or hardware.
  3. Gathers facts, researches issues, and analyzes potential solutions.
  4. Perform analysis of business objectives and develop solutions for problems of routine complexity.
  5. Gathers information and contributes to definition of program requirements and proposal development.
  6. Assist in developing and implementing applications or systems.
  7. May be responsible for coordination and oversight of small-scale technology projects, to include oversight of allocated resources.
  8. Maintains established applications using defined procedures.
  9. Assists in developing application modifications to enhance functionality; creates and updates documentation for applications and may provide training to users on new or changed processes.
  10. Performs systems analysis and develops intermediate to complex programming code.
Other duties may include
  1. Maintains development, test, and production RDBMS environments.
  2. Monitors and maintains database security and database software, in cooperation with data security administrators.
  3. Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance.
  4. Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data as required.
  5. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  6. Applies and troubleshoots vendor supplied upgrades; follows established methods for integrating or interfacing multiple applications.
  7. Provides on-call support and problem resolution for applications.
  8. Monitors relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
  9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology, programming skills, hardware, and applications. Participates in professional development activities as appropriate.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible and directly related experience.
  • Higher education and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to analyze and interpret information systems proposals of moderate scope and impact or assist with analysis of larger projects; ability to develop specifications according to a specified set of requirements and deliverables.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications of moderate complexity and/or assists with development of more advanced complexity.
  • Skilled in planning, design, installation, testing, and modification of systems or supporting subsystems.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant programming procedures.
  • Ability to specify and develop computer programs or subsystems of moderate scope and impact using a range of programming languages.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Possesses specialized skills in the use of one or more programming languages specific to the assignment.
  • Ability to perform acceptance testing on computer systems, applications, and hardware.
  • Ability to program, configure, manage, and maintain the operation of complex relational databases.
  • Ability to install, maintain, modify, and upgrade database software.
  • Ability to interpret data models and to develop database structures.
  • Ability to develop and manipulate large, complex data sets.
  • Knowledge of data integrity methods and techniques.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of computer and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

Working Relationships

 

This position is a full-time position in IT Services. The IT Systems Analyst/Developer reports to the Information Systems and Business Applications Director.

 

Travel

 

Travel between the main NGU campus and satellite campuses is required.
