Audition Requirements

Taped accompaniments are not allowed for any audition. An accompanist will be provided if needed.

  • Vocal
    1. Perform from memory, two pieces of contrasting style, selected from sacred song, art song,
      oratorio, or opera literature
    2. Worship studies major should prepare one of those as a worship selection
    3. Vocalize and demonstrate musical memory.
  • Keyboard

    Piano and Organ

    1. Perform from memory, two or three contrasting pieces from concert and/or sacred repertoire
    2. Maximum length 15 minutes
    3. Auditions are competitive, and applicants are encouraged to present polished performances.
  • Woodwind/Brass/String
    1. Play two compositions in contrasting styles from the standard literature
    2. Play scales or technical etudes suited to the individual instrument.
  • Guitar
    • Perform from memory, two contrasting selections
    • Perform one or more of the following:
      • Major scale, natural minor scale, blues scale, major and/or minor pentatonic scale, or may perform any scale studies which demonstrate familiarity with these.
  • Percussion

    Demonstrate ability in at least two of the following areas:

    • Snare drum (rudimental and/or concert solo or etude)
    • Keyboard (2 or 4 mallet solo or etude)
    • Timpani (concert solo or etude)
    • Drumset (basic styles and improvisation)
