Faculty Cello Recital – Richard Thomas, Cello

Dr. Thomas teaches cello and bass for NGU and is Principal Cello of the Anderson Symphony. He is the former Chair of the Department of Music at Presbyterian College and former Director of the PC Chamber Orchestra. He was also a faculty member of UNC Wilmington, the Universidad del Cauca and Universidad del Valle in Colombia, the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica of the Dominican Republic, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, and was String Department Head at Camp Encore-Coda in Sweden, Maine from 1999-2008. Thomas was a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, National Symphony of the Dominican Republic, the Dallas Lyric Opera, and was Assistant Principal of the South Carolina Philharmonic, and Principal of the Wilmington Symphony. Thomas has performed and taught in China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Japan, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, and Venezuela. He studied at DePauw University, the University of North Texas, and received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina.
